Seminar created by the Kommission for
Jugendphilatelie, Verband Schweizerischer
Philatelisten-Vereine / Union des societes
philateliques Suisses / Federation of
Swiss Philatelic Societies.
The original text, written in German
and French, was translated, with permission,
by Michael Madesker, for use of the
FIP Commission for Youth Philately.
The reason for treating Chapters
1 to 5 as a separate entity is their
main purpose: teaching the fundamentals
of philately. Chapter 6 is more advanced
in its scope with a function to prepare
future collectors for the task of
exhibiting, thus deserving of individual
treatment.
Several Federations have produced
excellent teaching texts to serve
their national interests, they are
well worth evaluating. The choice
of the Swiss model, by the FIP Commission
for Youth Philately, is that of expediency:
audience and was already available
in two languages: German and French.
Teachers of youth philately are encouraged
to adopt anyone of the textes and
adapt them for their special needs.
It must be noted that this monograph
is a comprehensive and simplified
work, ready for immediate use. For
in-depth study of any of its components
one is directed to use specialized
texts in the particular field.
